CPE Certificate Program Completion Information

All Programs

Students who meet the academic requirements for their program will receive a certificate from Boston University acknowledging their achievement in demonstrating the skills learned.  Students in online cohort classes (Genealogical Research, Paralegal, Professional Fundraising) will have their certificate issued at the completion of the class.  

Students in Financial Planning and Real Estate Studies need to submit a Certificate Completion Application. Certificates are processed and mailed at the beginning of each month for the applications received from the previous month.

Financial Planning & CFP Exam® Verification

Once you have completed the Boston University Financial Planning Program, you are eligible to sit for the CFP Board Examination and to receive the BU Certificate in Financial Planning if you met the grade requirements.

To receive your BU certificate, please do the following:

  1. Fill out the Certificate Completion Application

To register for the CFP Board exam, please do the following - complete details below:  
     NB:  Beginning January 18, 2024, CPE will collect a $200 processing fee that will be paid to the CFP Board when your education verification is submitted to them.

  1. Create an account with the CFP Board at http://www.cfp.net
    1. Submit your online exam application & exam fee (separate from verification fee)
  2. Complete the BU CFP Education Verification Request form - *Please note that this link goes to a form that is not accessible by some corporate networks. If this link does not work for you, please send an email to cpe@bu.edu with the following information:
    1. Name
    2. Email address (As used for your CFP® Exam registration)
    3. CFP ID
    4. Program Dates
    5. Phone number
  3. If you've completed all seven (7) classes with the Center for Professional Education:
    1. Beginning January 18, 2024, payment for the verification will be required. Once CPE verifies your information to the CFP Board, there are no refunds.  Complete the payment form here.
  4. When we submit the education verification, you will receive an email from the CFP Board indicating that your registration is complete. We submit verifications monthly and daily during the final weeks of an exam verification period and registration deadline.
