Evergreen Seminars 

  • Register* for the seminar(s) you wish to attend. If you purchased a Passport during this academic year (starting new every Fall), select "I Have a Passport Already" at checkout.
  • If the seminar is offered via Zoom link will be active prior to the first day of the seminar to all enrolled students. More information is available here.
  • Log in to Evergreen/CPE student account. (We recommend you do this before the first class date.)
  • Access the Zoom link and recordings: Go to My Enrollment History -> Click on the Seminar -> Link will show below in "View Online Resources" to join the seminar for each session. On the last day of the session, you can find this under the Completed tab.

They are included in the price of an Evergreen Passport, but enrollment is required.

Many aspects of American government and politics have been transformed during the second Trump Administration, and the midterm election season is probably the most contentious and consequential any of us have seen in our lifetimes. This series will set the scene with an analysis of the major political events and changes of recent years, then explore the contours of this election season, and conclude with an analysis of the 2026 election results and their implications for the future. How are we launching the second 250 years of the United States of America?

Overlooked, underrated, and misunderstood: Reevaluating popular musicians of the 1950s

Presented by Vincent L. Stephens, Assistant Provost for Faculty Development and Success and Lecturer, Department of Music

When we look beyond the cliched images commonly associated with “the 1950s” what might we discover? This seminar series explores these questions through focusing on a select group of popular musicians in the pop, rhythm & blues, and country music genres.  Students will have opportunities to expand and reevaluate their understanding of post-World War Two America through placing postwar optimism and prosperity in conversation with a broader range of social issues.

Some of the artists we will be exploring include Patsy Cline and Elvis Presley.

Historical re-enactor, Jessa Piaia, will present a 2-week Seminar on the life and times of the Earhart Sisters based on her first-person interpretation of pioneer aviatrix Amelia Earhart (1897-1937), through the lens of Amelia’s younger sister, Muriel Morrissey.

Week 1 will focus on Amelia's achievements, which include, but are not limited to aviation, leading up to her 1937 around-the-world flight, with the timeline running through Muriel's publishing the first of two biographies on her beloved sister in 1963. 

Week 2 will cover Muriel's sustained efforts to promote her sister's achievements while also protecting Amelia Earhart's reputation.  Also discussed will be Muriel Morrissey's various accomplishments herself, as a schoolteacher and Medford resident through the publishing of Muriel's second biography of Amelia in 1987.

Additionally, the seminars will focus on voting rights for American women, as both sisters were both active suffragists – and pacifists – who proudly cast their first ballots after ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920.
